This body of work is inspired by a trip to india and the street art marika found there call kolams.

Kolams are a transient art, millions of women in india draw by hand these beautiful patterns on the ground in front of their homes every morning using rice flour. It is done in a spirit of prayer and thanksgiving for the welfare of the family. It can be considered as a welcome mat for humans as well as heavenly visitors.

Marika Jones is a well-known New Zealand born resident artist. She has produced and exhibited a range of celebrated works over the past 15 years. A popular corporate and private commission artist, Marika has achieved great success in the United Kingdom and numerous sell-out shows in New Zealand.

Born in Dunedin in 1967 and raised in Auckland, Marika began painting in 1998 and has been working full-time or studying art ever since. In 2011 she graduated 1st in class with a Bachelor of Visual Arts.
