Commonly known as NZ’s Christmas Tree because of it’s spectacular bright scarlet blooms which flower from early summer.
While it is naturally found in the northern part of the North Island, it can grow in coastal areas of the South Island including as far south as Dunedin. Frost tender while young. Metrosideros excelsa grows to approximately 15m but can be contained in a pot. Generally Trees Please! will use Metrosideros excelsa ‘Vibrance’ or alternative varieties which grow to approximately 4m. However Metrosideros excelsa may be substituted from time to time.
Pohutukawa nectar is favoured by apiarists as well as bellbirds and tui and some species of native gecko. Pohutukawa wood is very strong so was used in boat building.
Delivered in a Trees Please! pine gift box as shown.
