Piwakawaka & Pohutukawa

TIN0102
Pīwakawaka (fantail) in the Pohutukawa
A distinctly New Zealand-ish whimsical magnetic set by tinch - at long last after many requests for something 'kiwiana'....

A set of 11 handmade magnets, to form a sweet scene of a fantail birdie perched on a branch:
1 fantail birdie
5 hearts to form the birdie's fan-tail
1 branch (measures approx 200mm wide)
2 leaves
2 pohutukaka heart/flowers

Lovingly handmade to upcycle selected materials:
Some of them are materials that you once might have seen in your grandparent's home, or may still be spotted in the odd kiwi bach. They've been salvaged from the imminent fate of ending up at various New Zealand landfills. Transformed through context, their colours, textures and patterns are designed to be celebrated in New Zealand homes once again, in a sort of nostalgic, (almost kitsch) subtle way.

Arrange the scene however you like - this is designed to be enjoyed as interactive art. It's beautiful and functional - use the magnetic pieces to hold reminders, shopping lists, photos, recipes, or just enjoy it as it is as unique fridge-art.

Designed for use on any magnetic surface, it fits a fridge beautifully, or you may like to paint a magnetic board or wall especially to display and interact with it.

Tactile and textured, they're guaranteed to be well admired.
Strictly limited edition due to the fact they're made of the last traces of various textiles.
Each set is unique - pattern placements will be unique to each set, especially noticeable in the birdie - as you would expect nuances of colour and markings in every little fantail you meet around the country.

This is a thoughtful gift for any occasion - house warmings, birthdays, and especially for the homesick kiwi abroad.
Designed to be posted flat like a letter internationally, think of your expat friends and family!

Helen Riley-Duddin is a designer, design lecturer, wife and mum based in Dunedin, New Zealand.... wokring from her wonderful garden studio at her favourite red formica table.

"I wanted to design something halfway between art and play for walls in our home. My magnetic wallscapes are the outcome; delightfully dynamic and adaptable in their arrangement possibilities, they are ever-changing decals."

"The wallscapes are only made with upcycled materials, mainly fabrics and vintage wallpapers which gives the decals a lovely tactile and textured quality."
